Bilberry

What is it?

A short shrubby perennial that grows in the forests and on the moors of northern Europe.

What does it do?

Many of the medicinal qualities of bilberry derive from anthocyanosides, the plant's main constituents, which are potent antioxidants. These compounds help to counteract cell damage caused by the unstable oxygen molecules known as free radicals.

Common Uses

Maintains healthy vision, treats diabetic retinopathy, cataracts and macular degeneration, relieves varicose veins and haemorrhoids.

Dosage

Normal doses range from 40 to 100 mg of bilberry extract two or three times a day.
