Glucosamine
What is it?
A fairly simple molecule containing glucose. It is found in relatively high concentrations in the joints and connective tissues, where the body uses it to form the larger molecules necessary for cartilage repair and maintenance. Various forms are sold. Glucosamine sulphate is the preferred from for arthritis.
What does it do?
Recent studies show that it may be even more effective for relieving pain and inflammation than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen, without their harmful side effects. Moreover NSAIDs do little to combat the progression of osteoarthritis, and may even make it worse by impairing the body's ability to build cartilage. By contrast, glucosamine helps to build cartilage and may repair damaged joints. However, it cannot do much for people with advanced arthritis when cartilage has completely worn away.
Common Uses
Relieves pain, stiffness and swelling of joints caused by osteo-arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
Dosage
