Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)
What is it?
The only B vitamin stored in the body in large amounts.
What does it do?
Helps in the production of red and white blood cells and therefore prevents pernicious anaemia.
Common Uses
Prevents pernicious anaemia, helps to reduce depression, thwarts nerve pain, numbness and tingling. Lowers the risk of heart disease.
Dosage
A general dose of 1000mcg of vitamin B12 a day may be useful for heart disease prevention, pernicious anaemia, numbness and tingling, tinnitus, multiple sclerosis.
Caution
If you take a vitamin B12 supplement you must also have a folic acid supplement: a high intake of one can mask a deficiency of the other. Diagnosis of pernicious anaemia should be made by a doctor.
Caution - Consult your doctor before taking supplements, especially if you have a medical condition or are pregnant.
